Priya Virdee-Hero - Partnerships & Development Officer

Priya is a driven and passionate young person currently studying her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at QUT. She enjoys learning and this pushes her to participate in further programs such as the 2023 Australian Crisis Simulation Summit, the 2023 Global Institute of Women in Leadership Youth Summit, and a Global Challenges Micro-Internship with Common Purpose.

Priya holds several leadership roles in the community, as the Development Director at UN Youth Queensland, a Youth Advocate at the Queensland Family and Child Commission, a Parkrun Director, and a Youth Advisory Council Member for the US Consulat-General, Headspace, and Bravehearts. In 2023 she was the Youth Member for Southport within the YMCA Youth Parliament Program, and the Vice President of AIESEC Queensland. She also donates her time volunteering for the Women’s Legal Service Queensland, and as a patrolling Surf Lifesaver at the Southport Surf Lifesaving Club.

In recognition of the extensive community work she does, Priya has recently been selected as a finalist for the 2024 Soroptimist International Women Empowering Others Award through the 7NEWS Young Achievers Awards. Additionally, Priya has recently been awarded the 2023 Gold Coast Young Woman of the Year Award by the Gold Coast Bulletin, the 2023 Dr Joe Goodall Community Spirit Award by the YMCA Youth Parliament, the Forum Communicators Bursary by the National Council of Women and Forum Communicators Association, and the Gladys Moncrieff Youth Award by Angie Bell MP. As an intersectional youth and gender equity advocate, Priya participates and speaks at events to empower young people and advocate for her passions. She was recently invited to speak on an International Women's Day Panel with Young Australians in International Affairs, and was the winner of the inaugural Culture and Diversity Moot, representing the Asian Australian Lawyers Association.
