I’m a science communicator with a background in applied maths and a passion for improving equity, diversity and inclusion in STEM.  My proudest achievement is the National Quantum & Dark Matter Road Trip, which travels to regional and remote schools and communities around Australia to engage with and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

I have undergrad degrees in maths and physics, as well as an honours degree and a PhD in maths.  My PhD was about developing new maths to improve our understanding of biological processes like solid tumour growth and wound healing.  The key to it all was canard solutions, which are so-named because they look a bit like ducks when plotted and are basically impossible to see numerically or physically, so were thought to be a hoax.

Since completing my PhD, I’ve worked as a subeditor on the science journal Nature, as a digital producer for the charity Cancer Research UK, and as the communications & engagement manager for a national quantum physics research centre (the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems; EQUS).

Outside work I enjoy running, doing improv comedy, seeing and talking to friends, talking to schools and others about science, drag, bushwalking, supporting the Brisbane Roar and Lions (especially the women’s teams), and watching my favourite TV show (The Good Wife) and listening to my favourite music (Six the Musical, Eurovision & Chappell Roan) on repeat.
